What Does Passion Mean to You?

I recently wrote a blog post on what it takes to reignite your passion when you feel disconnected from it. In that blog post, I suggested that becoming more aware of your thoughts and feelings was one of the ways to reconnect with a sense of passion and purpose in your life.

A great way to do that is to ask yourself several self-awareness questions that will help you explore your thoughts and feelings about passion, itself. You can take these questions into meditation with you, use them as journaling prompts, or think about them while you’re taking a walk.

Here are some questions to get you started:

What does passion mean to you?

What are the things you’re passionate about?

What has meaning in your life? What’s important to you?

What deeply moves you?

It could be issues such as poverty, women’s issues, animal rights, self-esteem for teens, and art in the schools. Or it could be your experience of nature’s beauty, the arts—dance, visual art, music—your own struggles, the struggles of others, people’s self-expression, your relationships, intimacy, Spirit, creativity, or inspiration. And the possibilities go on.

What are the qualities you’re passionate about?
You could be passionate about always doing your best, or fostering loving relationships between people, or you could be passionate about honesty, integrity, justice, compassion, love, strength, oneness, stillness, transparency, beauty, creativity, brilliancy, embodiment, freedom, harmony, grace, happiness, will, flow, gratitude, knowledge, joy, surrender, enlightenment or peace.

How do you experience and express your passion?

How does it feel in your body? How does it feel emotionally? How do your actions embody your passion? How do your thoughts change when you’re passionate? What’s the difference, experientially, between caring about something and being passionate about it?

What longs to be expressed in you?

What do you feel called to do, be, share, or contribute?

What would you most regret not doing in this life?

What do your answers to these questions tell you about your true passion, as well as your relationship with it?

Please share your thoughts. Your comments make a difference for us all.
