What does it mean to you to be a better person? What would you do differently? How would you feel differently?

Here is a list of ten ways you can help yourself be a better person.

1) Evolving your consciousness. Becoming more conscious involves being more aware of the world around you, as well as becoming curious about what makes you tick. This helps you build more confidence, become more relaxed around others, behave more generously, and feel happier in your everyday life. Knowing your inner hopes and dreams, thoughts and feelings, helps you create a more enjoyable life.

2) Discovering your inner longings and passions. Take time to listen to those inner stirrings that are speaking to you about what it is that you most want to do.  Following this helps you unfold into the person you want to be.

3) Setting goals. Out of the inner longings and passion, set the goals that speak to your deepest self. Dream big!

4) Creating the steps to achieve those goals. What skills do you need to learn in order to succeed? What is the order of those steps for each goal? Write them all down and have them visible daily.
5) Recognizing your shadow. What is it that you don’t like about yourself? Facing all that is hidden in our inner shadows allows us more freedom to be ourselves and helps us allow others to be themselves.

6) Containing your difficult feelings. Part of becoming conscious is learning to navigate your inner thoughts and feelings. Finding productive ways to process your difficult feelings like anger, hurt, jealousy, and then be able to speak a more digested version of what you want to express, gives you closer and more productive relationships.

7) Developing perseverance. Successful happy people with good relationships know how to stay put. Immediate gratification is great when it works out, but stick-to-it-ness helps us attain what we truly long for and helps us fulfill our longings and goals.

8) Cultivating resiliency. Everyone’s life has ups and downs. We will experience more peace of mind when we know how to be with ourselves, and we know we’re going to be okay. We know we have the where-with-all to find our way out of difficulties.

9) Nurturing our inner strength. We all have it. Sometimes it just gets blocked. Our inner strength is there and it’s our job to whatever work is necessary in order to allow it to flourish. We can live a life that would make our Mama’s proud.

10) Practicing compassion. Deep breath. We all suffer at times, so be kind to yourself and all you meet. Like Plato said, “Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.”
