In early July, I am beginning my radio show with Co-Creator Radio, a radio network dedicated to "awakening a greater global consciousness," and consequently I had the privilege and honor of being a part of the Humanity's Team meeting in New York City last week. They were presenting their Oneness Day Petition to the United Nations, as well as the prestigious 2010 Spiritual Leadership Award to author and activist Andrew Harvey for his Sacred Activism.
Andrew Harvey received international recognition for his spiritual leadership on May 19, at the New York Open Center. This worldwide spiritual movement that is "awakening the world to Oneness," recognized Andrew's extraordinary demonstrations of inspired action and visionary leadership throughout his life. He gave an amazing talk that was awe inspiring and I had the privilege of connecting with him. I'm thrilled that he's agreed to guest blog for me.
The next day, on May 20, the Oneness Petition held center stage. The Oneness Day Petition begins, "I declare: that the message We Are All One, inter-related, inter-connected and inter-dependent, with God/Life/One-another, is the one spiritual message that the world has been waiting for to bring about loving and sustainable answers to humanity's challenges." It goes on to address spiritual citizenship, humanity's unlimited potential, people's need for one another, and the importance of setting aside a day "for all of humanity to come together as one human family, to discuss, celebrate and experience Oneness."
This petition is the heart-child of Humanity's Team, a group of volunteers from all over the world that was started by "Conversations With God" author Neale Donald Walsch in response to the events of September 11, 2001, and the aftermath. Humanity's Team has been called "a civil rights movement for the soul." Its mission is to live the truth that we are all one, and to share that truth with the world.
It is in this spirit that Humanity's Team has called on the United Nations to declare a Global Oneness Day, which they hope will be embraced as deeply and as meaningfully as Earth Day has been. They believe that the awareness and actions inspired by a global "Oneness Day" would eventually change the way people think and act towards each other.
The Oneness Day Petition has been signed by over 50,000 people from 168 countries, including Marianne Williamson, Deepak Chopra, Michael Beckwith, Yoko Ono, the Dalai Lama's envoy Sonam Tenzin, and Nobel Peace laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu. This is "potentially the most important petition ever launched" Yoko Ono said. On May 20th, the petition was presented to Ambassador Anwarul K. Chowdhury (who initiated the U.N. Culture of Peace initiative) at the United Nations.
Desmond Tutu, awarded the 2009 Spiritual Leadership Award by Humanity's Team, says, "We must recognize our common humanity -- that we are all one, that our destinies are bound up in one another's, that I need you for me to be me and that we complement each other as essential parts of a greater whole." He considers humanity's oneness, "a fundamental law of our being."
Have you signed the Oneness Day Petition? If not, I encourage you to do so. Visit the Humanity's Team today and add your support!
