Sanskrit for “to extinguish”, in Buddhism, meaning to pass from one state of existence to another. In Buddhist tradition, nirvana is the realization of absolute truth, and the ending of the cycle of life and rebirth. I has also been described as the state of experiencing the world through an enlightened mind; In psychological terms, nirvana has been defined as the death of the ego-passion that is associated with need.
