‘Without qualities’. In Hindu philosophy, the Upanishads identify the Absolute or Supreme Reality of the Universe as being without any form or material quality, as any quality constitutes a limitation. It is beyond conception and reasoning, and therefore is not prayed to but is meditated upon. Its counterpart, Saguna Brahaman, is the god form that is prayed to. According to Advaita Vedanta, practitioners can experience the Nirguna form of the Supreme when they have transcended reality. See Advaita, Saguna
