Relating to holism; concerned with wholes or with complete systems rather than with the analysis of and treatment of, by reducing or dissecting into parts; i.e. holistic medicine attempts to treat both the mind and the body and views humans and the environment as a single system. The idea and viewpoint that all the properties of a given system be it mental, social, biological, cannot be determined or explained by its component parts alone. Cconcisely summarized by Aristotle: "The whole is more than the sum of its parts" (1045a10).
