Fugen bosatsu is the Japanese name for the bodhisattva Samantabhadra, often seen riding on the back of an elephant. This is the bodhisattva of action and behavior and actively urges people to practice the principles of Buddhism. Fugen bosatsu made ten vows to define the actions of a bodhisattva; these include the practice of Buddhism as an example for others and respect for all living beings. See Samantabhadra
