Clarity and wisdom; in religious or spiritual enlightenment, this state is usually experienced in relation to an understanding of the qualities of opposites like good and evil; how they are distinguished as well ad seen as two sides of the same coin. In Buddhism & Hinduism, it is a blessed state in which the individual transcends desire and suffering and attains Nirvana or oneness with the Divine; a philosophical movement, The Age of Enlightenment, of the eighteenth century that stressed human reasoning as a primary source or basis of authority over blind faith or obedience. Developing in Germany and moving through out Europe, the thinking is said to have influenced the United States Bill of Rights. It was in contrast with much of the religious and political order of the day, while also encouraging 'scientific' thinking.
