The second sephira and the ninth gate. A male sephira, it is translated primarily as “Wisdom,” or the mind’s ability to conceptualize something that has not been thought of before; Chochmah is not a function of the imagination but is intuitive insight or a flash of insight. It is often paired with Binah, the third sephira, with Binah as “mother or Ima” and Chochmah as “father or Abba”; (See Sephirot)
