A being on the path of awakening. Mahayana Buddhism regards the Bodhisattva as a person who has achieved a high degree of enlightenment and seeks to use his or her wisdom to help other human beings to become liberated. The bodhisattva is a being who vows to remain in the world, life after life, postponing his own full liberation until all other living beings are delivered.
